After "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn", "A Saucerful of Secrets" was Pink Floyd's second album. During the recordings in 1967/1968 in the Abbey Road Studios the mental problems of Syd Barrett increased more and more, also two of his songs were not included in the album in the end. The band was looking for a second guitarist: At first Jeff Beck was discussed, but he proved to be too expensive. The choice finally fell on David Gilmour, a friend of the band. The last recordings of the album were played by Gilmour alone. The final separation from Syd Barrett then took place in April 1968.
